Is Understand certified?¶
Yes, Understand has achieved certification for ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and EN 50128 compliance from TÜV SÜD, a globally recognized testing and certification organization.

What the safety manual covers¶
SciTools publishes an Understand Safety Manual per certified build. According to the safety manual, the certification applies with the following scope:

According to the Understand Safety Manual Build 7.2.1248, the tool-qualification activities are performed in accordance with ISO 26262-8, and those activities and the associated evidence are also considered sufficient to satisfy the applicable tool-qualification requirements of IEC 61508 for the intended use.
Certification is per build, not per product line
A given safety manual certifies one build (e.g. v6.3 build 1136, and later v7.2 build 1248). Newer releases are assessed against the previously certified version through a documented Safety Impact Analysis plus regression and verification activities. The safety manual for your build lists its exact version, checksums, certified languages, and OS versions.
