Download Understand & create an account¶
1. Create a SciTools account¶
Go to licensing.scitools.com and, if you don't have one, Register (name, email, password). Your licenses and claim codes live in this account.
2. Download the right kit for your OS¶
Download from the licensing portal (check which languages, compilers, and OSes are supported first). Understand offers a few kit variants:

On Windows there's one kit: the installer's Default Install includes everything at the current release, and Advanced Install chooses components, the AI model, and the build (or skips the model). On Linux and macOS, pick Minimal if you don't want the local AI model, or CLI for headless/CI use. Not sure whether Qwen or Granite fits your machine and needs? See Choose a model (local or cloud) — you can also switch or download models after installing, so this choice isn't final.
3. Install and license¶
- Install: Install Understand — Linux, macOS, Windows, or headless/Docker.
- License: redeem a claim code & enter your license, or start a trial.
You can try Understand for free on the included sample projects, and on any open-source project. A trial license lets you run it on your own code as well.
